Weird Sata Problem

Thread Starter
Ok so ive built a server for my dads work, redundant psu's etc the lot. they didnt want very high spec so i decided to put sata drives in, and of course the mobo that i got was server grade so all it had on it was SCSI ports. So i put in the raid card. ok that works fine but here is the problem

1. IDE HDD with windows on (boots fine)
2. IDE HDD + SATA Card (Boots Fine)
3. IDE HDD + SATA Card + 160GB SATA HHD (hangs at updating escd ... sucess or alternativley after boot cdrom ....

4. IDE HDD + SATA Card + 160GB SATA HHD (i can get in to the sata utility and format the entire hard disk so its not faulty or anything)

Anyone got any ideas why its causing the idea hdd not to boot and hanging at the updating escd prompt. btw this is a propre crash eg ctrl+alt+del wont actuarly restart. you have to kill the power

Thanks
Squeeky

This might sound like a redundant question... but did you install the appropriate drivers for the SATA RAID card?

just found out something else weird. Pluggin the sata hard disk in to the raid card on port 1 allows be to boot a cdrom perfectly and 0 gets stuck at verifying DMI pool data

Just throughing this out there, you may want to try another hard disk, preferably another brand to make sure there are no incompatabilities.

It seems to me the SATA card works fine, until the HD is plugged, then it hangs on boot, probably trying to initialize the disk but failing.

Hope this helps.
