Riva Tuner Question

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

I'm using Riva Tuner to put GPU fans to 95% speed every time I play WoW,
otherwise it's going to crash and burn. I open up Riva and set direct control
in 3d mode performance to 95% but it always keeps going at 95%!

Is there a way to set up so it only goes to 95% during gaming mode and stay @50% the rest of the time automacally so I don't have to manually set it up every time?

You have to set up a fan profile that is triggered at different temperatures. There's a number of good guides on how to do this using rivatuner.

95% is quite high and only necessary if you have a very aggressive overclock. My gtx260 is oc and I run fans safely at 60% when gaming (fallout 3, far cry 2, etc). This info may not apply to you though b/c we have different cards w/ different coolers. I would be reluctant to run anything I own at 95% for hours on end, but that's just me.

Here's some advice: First play your game @ stock fan speeds and use GPU-Z to record your temps and fan speeds so you can see the progression of temps so you know how to set your temp "range event" (the temp range you want the card to increase fan speeds).

Here's the best basic guide I have found:
http://www.vaguetech.com/index.php?pageid=rt207#fan

Do the above guide first then refer back to this... that guide doesn't tell you how to make the fan speeds revert to stock after a gaming session. I'll tell you how to do that now so you can refer to this later. Set an additional schedule task to run "on monitor hardware threshold event" with the data source as "core temp", set your threshold temp, and direction "downward". Be sure you make an appropriate launcher item (revert 50%) to match this before going through all this. With the info you learn in the guide this will all make sense.

Come back when you have problems getting vista to start rivatuner automatically @ startup w/ out popup
