Q6600 or other Quad CPU? - Page 2

for SLI, the evga 750i FTW is the least expensive GOOD mobo you can get.

as for the CPU, unless you can get a used Q6600 cheap that is a proven overclocker, go for a Q9550.

Yeah, based on what I've been reading, one does not want to buy a new Q6600 right now. They are not overclocking very well at all. Try to pick up a used one off the forums or go with the 9550.

Q9550 Overclocks pretty well comparing to the Q6600, If you have the money, I would go for X58 Mobo and i7 920, or waiting for price drop, the Q9650 is going to be cheaper same for the Q9550 so one of them will be great. gl

EVGA 750FTW will be your best bet for SLI, although the Gigabyte EP45 UD3P has been the talk of the town here on OCN, it overclocks a lot better for quads than any other board right now.

Most likely, yes. It's easier to overclock an E8400, and at stock speeds it's faster by 600MHz, which DOES make a huge difference.

The Q6600s still do 3.4-3.6Ghz. I have one of the later batches of Q6600s and it does 3.4Ghz folding stable at 1.39v. The only other options are the Q9400s and above. Dont get the Q9300.

If you go dual core, you would want the E8500. The newer E8400s dont OC as well.
