its well worth it, for one the silence and also the temps will stay WAY lower even with the new fans on the slowest speed.

I just installed a waterblock on my 9800gx2, it cost me $125 for the block. But i kept over heating while in game and it was making me mad. Even with the stock fan at 100% my temps would be around 70C while gaming. Now my temps are around 30-35c while gaming.

Not to mention i can hear myself think now.

you could try watercooling. The fan on the waterblock is extremely quiet.

Well, I'm getting a GTX 260 in two days so I'm interested in a cooler for this card too. I have no problem buying this is if it can be used with cards that come out in the future.

Watercooling would work for me, but that would be some extra heat in my loop that I don't want. Plus, you can't use that waterblock on an up-coming card either.

With watercooling you won't really get anymore overclocking room unless you volt mod it with a bios change. My fan doesn't really get that loud even at 100%, so I ran it as far as it would go and my max temp was only 60.

If you are having problems with your cooler then it really is an option, but don't expect more overclocking room

I'd say in general the HR-03 series are very versatile and widely compatible coolers.
This particular model says it's only for 260/280 based on the mounting holes. Which kinda makes me think it's just a different mounting bracket for the same (if not better) heat sink as the other HR-03 models.
I bet with some ingenuity, modifying, or ordering other brackets from thermalright you could use this cooler on future cards too.

Thread Starter
Are there any coolers in existance aside from the HR-03 ?

I've got zero intention of ever using water cooling, and not much enthusiasm toward overclocking my GTX260 either. It plays everything i throw at it just fine, so i don't need anymore out of it.

Just looked at the link for the aftermarket heatsink. In their photos, it shows a separate fan installed on the cooler, and from the description, it does not come with the heatsink.

My question - in the product photos, is the fan really held on by twist ties?

No, it's the same clips as a true. Looks at the bottom of the performance pcs link and it shows all the parts.
The fan doesnt come with the heatsink, but any 120mm should work, from what i'm reading. My HR-03+ has a 92mm on it, this version must be a bigger sink.

Yes, I can see that the heatsink itself comes pretty well secured to the card. However, the fan attached to the heatsink looks like it's twist-tied on. I just can't believe the manufacturer didn't come up with a better solution for attaching a fan to the setup.

Here's the photo that I'm talking about.

EDIT: All right, after staring at the photos for a few minutes, I think I see what you're talking about. Sorry for the confusion. Still seems pretty flimsy to me, but I must admit that I don't know a lot about it.

I'm interested in an aftermarket GTX260 cooler aswell but with that one it looks like it'd be a tight squeeze even on a dual sli setup, plus would force the last PCI space out of use, are there any smaller ones or possible to mod it so the heatsink & fan sit on top instead (if poss?)
