Actually, my real point was that you were clouding the issue by revisiting a point you weren't trying to make.

Also, a freezer compressor won't do any good as a water chiller, but I'm sure someone's mentioned that already. If the water cools to ambient in the radiator, then your chiller still has to work constantly to remove heat, which a freezer compressor isn't designed for.

Sorry for the double post.

Actually, it's only cold in certain places in space. Places well away from heat. The moon ranges from -100 or something to well over 400 degrees C in the sun. A vacuum is actually an insulator, which is why it works so nicely in a Thermos.

You live in Ottawa, why not find a way to use the cold weather up there to your advantage. There's a lot of ideas out there floating around for that.

Yeah, there are lots of threads about bringing ducting from a window over to the computer. It's supposed to drop temperatures by quite a bit, actually.

yeah but then you get good cooling performances only in winter...
the conditionned air sounds like the best idea so far. aim the thing straight at your radiator i guess

I think the idea with the air conditioner was that you would basically take its radiator and put it in a reservoir, not aim the cold air at your computer. You'd have to insulate your CPU against condensation, though.

i was thinking about aiming it at the radiator's fans' intake, but your idea is even more practical.

Keep in mind your reservoir would basically be a picnic cooler... although if you wanted to keep your radiator in a freezer, I bet that isn't an issue.

There are several things.

1 the rad isnt a bad idea to do at all. Though it would cause the freezer to work 24/7 which would kill the freezer. Theres also condesnsations problems with the block. Also the water could most likely not freeze since it is constantly being moved by the pump!

Its something i would not try. Though you could try mounting your radiator outside your window. Make a rad box. That could work. Add a little radiator antifreeze so that it will not freeze. After all thats what winter is for.
