3dmark scores, thinking of upgrading but confused

Thread Starter
I recently upgraded my RAM and CPU from 667DDR2 and E6420@3.2Ghz to 800DDR2 and E8400@4.05 Ghz and I saw my 3dmark score go from 15000 to 17561. The video cards are still the same, SLI EVGA 8800GTS 320MB(G80) Core. I don't remember the individual scores on my E6420, just the aggregate. But the scores with my E8400 are

SM2.0 8119
SM3.0 8410
CPU 3797
Total:17561

I see other people posting their scores for GTX280's and 48070s and they are right around the same area. I see online tests showing GTX280's scoring around 16,500.

I did GTX 280 --> HD4870X2 once as well running on an EVGA 780i. With a single GTX 280 overclocked I got around 18,100, while with the 4870X2 overclocked I got about 19,000 with my Q9450 @ 3.6ghz.
So a quad core with an overclocked 280 only got 18,100? That is barely more than mine(~600pts), and its a $350-400 card. I am still running a 680i which is PCI 1.0, but I don't want a complete system overhaul, so I was curious, is there something I missing? My games run okay now, but I am interested in the Living Legends Mech Mod for Crysis and I have heard that game is pretty tough on systems. Is it possible to download and run the Crysis bench without having the game?

Looking for some feedback is all...

Give the Crysis demo a try. Also, benchmark vs. real-world performance is often VASTLY different. Especially with something as old as 3DM06.
