Need advice on RAM

Thread Starter
Alright now I currently own Corsair XMS3 1333 3x2Gb and I was wondering if I should either buy another set and make my total 12Gb of RAM or should I sell the ones I own and upgrade to a set of Corsair Dominators 3x2Gb 1600?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Honestly, if price/performance is important to you I don't think you'll see (m)any gains with either choice. Except:

1) If you find that you are often utilizing 4/5GB+ of ram, then another 6GB would be the way to go, but it may make overclocking more difficult with more stress to the northbridge.

2)If you are trying to get a high overclock and you feel that you ram speed is holding you back, than the dominators are the way to go.

What practical use do you have for 12 Gb of ram? You already have enough where you can just about turn off your page file. If you can justify using more RAM, then definitely go with more RAM.

Now, this is not my area of expertise, but i do not think you will get any noticeable improvement (well, noticeable enough to justify spending $250) by going to the faster ram.

Would it be better investment to invest in a second video card, or a second hard drive for RAID instead of RAM? I don't think RAM is the weakest point in your current system.

Thanks for your replies. The thing is I'm definitely buying another VelociRaptor 300Gb, and I'm waiting for the GTX 295 to come out. So I have the extra money to buy the extra 6Gb so I thought why not have it.

But I suppose that 12Gb isn't unecessary, I just thought it wouldn't hurt any. Rep+ thanks guys.
