Open Office the only free solution

OK, a friend of mine just got a new lappy and it doesn't have MS word. He is looking for something for excel files and word docs. Is open office the best solution for free?

Definitely. I personally hate OO because it's quirky for a lot of things related to styles and formatting, but for a free, everyday word processing suite, it really can't be beat.

OpenOffice FTW! It's all I use anymore. It's improved vastly since I first checked it out on version 2.2.
