New rig

Thread Starter
Hello there,
The downstairs laptop is nearly dead after about 4 years of hard work, and now I need to think of putting together a new rig.
It is mainly used for emails, word & browsing the net.
It has to be under £500 (not inc. monitor)

I was thinking about these parts

CPU - Intel E5200 2.5GHz
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L iP31 Or ASUS P5KPL-C/1600 iG31
Ram - If this build goes ahead I am going to use the ram from my rig now LINK but 3GB not 4GB. And either go for this Crucial 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 800MHz Or this OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz but the OCZ went out of stock.
GFX - I have an ATI 2400XT
PSU - Like the ram I am planning to my OCZ Stealth Xtream 500W in the new computer and get this Thermaltake ToughPower 750W Modular for myself
HD - Maxtor 500GB
Case - Asus TA-861 Black/Silver Midi Case
CD Drive - LiteOn LH-20A1H 20x DVD±RW-RAM
Operating system - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

I am open to suggestions and any thoughts

I know the 500W psu is a tad overkill but this is a way I can upgrade my computer without parents knowing

Edit: sorry for crappy screenshot... I do not know what happend there.

I would change the power supply to corsair etc as they are known for their quality, I would also get a Sony Optiarc dvd drive and I might consider changing the motherboard to a p35 or something with onboard graphics.

...get an antec 300...they are awesome

I don't see the point for a P35 board when it doesn't seem like its going to be beneficial and the OCZ 500W StealthXStream serves my needs very well, so that's fine. Corsair is very good but added unnecessary cost in my opinion.

Agreed on the Antec 300.

So should I get this - Corsair 520W HX but for £9 I can get the toughpower....

Why should I go with Onboard graphics if I have a 2400 not being used?
And a P35 is too expensive.
