Dream on... they can't make a dual-GTX280 card because of power consumption and heat problems.

LETS TALK ABOUT PRICE TO PERFORMANCE RATIO!!!!!!!!

Now do you see how stupid it is to cherry pick a benchmark and fanboy party about it? yes i know this is stupid, and you dont need freaking 300 FPS lol. just doing it to prove how lame it is, give it a break . and PLEASE fix your epic fail pricing on your last post, just hit newegg and see what the actual prices are, not something you made up out of nothing. adding tons of cash to the nvidia cards to make them look bad is pathetic.

Personally, I think all you guys a freaking out. When more mature drivers come out, I won't be a bit surprised if the GTX 295 is faster than the HD4870x2. A GTX 280 (look at the core, memory is important, but in my logic it is irrelevant) beats a HD4870 by a noticeable margin. Sure there's a bit less memory on the 295, but I don't think it's enough to cause any REAL problems.

What it comes down to is scalability. We all saw that an HD3870x2 paired with a HD3870, gave AMAZING results for it's cost. NVidia can't do the same type of pairing, ATI can.

The 295 is going to end up costing at least $100-$150 more than what you can pick up an HDD4870x2 for now a days ($480ish). Drop in an HD4870 1GiB for Tri-Fire, and you may even beat the price-performance ratio (Yes, it costs more, but it performs better, if we're lucky the math will show it)

EDIT: (Maff)

$370 * 2 = $740 SLI set up right? Let's cut off $40 to make it an easier number, and for the fact that there is less memory.

GTX 295 possible MSRP, $700. If it's lower, then good, it should be. Realistically I expect it to sell for $650, so let's go with that.

And HD4870x2 is still $480.

700/480 = 1.45833333...

Call it 1.45? Sure. The 295 needs to be 45% faster than the HD4870x2 for it to be on the same price/performance ratio.

You are absolute right actually. The two GPUs in the GTX295 each have the same 240SPs as the GTX280 but that is where the similarity with the GTX280 ends. Almost all of the rest of the specs mirror the GTX260 (896MB GDD3 per GPU, 448-bit per GPU, 576MHz core, 1242MHz shader, and 2000MHz memory).

No, I believe what Auld was trying to explain is why the GTX295 is faster than SLI GTX260 Core 216s. You said earlier that it didn't make sense that your HD4870 X2 could beat SLI GTX260 Core 216s but not the GTX295.

I want to see some real benchmark from OCN member or people like Us. I don't really trust the results on those websites anymore. It looks like they got paid from Nvidia and ATi or something. What if you get a good FPS on the GTX295 but it keeps giving you error and overheating every time you play games? Will you buy that kind of card?

Ah thanks i was actually right! the original GTX260 had 192 and the bump up to the 216 gave a decent boost in performance. now imagine the gains with a bump to a GTX260 Core 240 SLI which is basically what this card is. i was trying to prove this to Robilar that it was silly to compare his GTX260 Core216 SLI to the GTX295 because it is indeed faster, but he took me as a noob who didn't know it was a dual GPU card .

Red team FTW; Green team to continue freaking out due to ATI making excellent cards again!

"According to NVIDIA, the GeForce GTX 295 will be available immediately on its release date, January 8th. The price? A somewhat reasonable suggested retail price of $499."

No problem, I understood you completely. The GTX295 has 480SPs total from its two GPUs which is why it is faster than SLI GTX 260 Core 216s which has 432SPs total. I was actually going to correct Robilar but you beat me to it.
