Build for my brother, $1000 for just the tower

Thread Starter
He bought wrath of the lich king and his laptop can't handle it all that well and the fan is broken so it is really loud. He wants me to build him a new computer, but I haven't really kept up to date on computers since I got carpal tunnel this year. He basically wants to be able to play wow: lich king and also play new games that come out without problems. He can get vista for free from school or from other sources so don't worry about that. He wants to be able to run crysis and starcraft 2

I am not sure if he will OC. His answer was, if you can show me how to do it easily. So basically no, unless the performance gain/savings is meaningful...

DVD Burner: Liteon

Case:CM-690

HDD: SAMSUNG SpinPoint T 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Monitor: SAMSUNG 2253BW Black 22" 2ms(GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail

GPU: GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail
RAM: 2 xCORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
MB: DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU:Q6600 going to be OC'd
Cooling/Heatsink:TRUE + fan

Did I miss anything. Is the DFI MB good for OCing? Also I am not canadian.... Thoughts about that build. That RAM shouldn't hold the OC back right? I am leaving now, I will order the parts tomorrow morning. Thanks everyone.

Theres a good start.
If you get the Nvidia GTX260, get a 750i motherboard
Likewise
If you get a 4870, get a Gigabyte UD3P

That way, in the future you can add in another video card

Agreed with the SLI mobo if you plan to upgrade by adding another card, if you're a single card guy, then a P45 mobo would be fine. I don't get why you would want to switch to the UD3P. The P5Q Pro already has 2 PCIe slots, and both are P45 so you can't get x16/x16 on either board.

Okay thank you. He just wants one GPU. I am going to go with the 12v @ 59 amp corsair instead of my PSU. It has 2 * 6+2 for PCIE which is good for that 4870.

I am going to go Q6600 + TRUE + DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R that should be good right? That MB is from the build I was going to do before I got carpal tunnel (see sig)

DDR2 1066 is basically the same price as DDR2 800 which one should I go with?? (Yes I know 1066 is higher binned 800 doesn't tell me which is better though)

Also he wants this to last 3-4 years so I am not sure if we should do 4GB or 8GB, I know 8GB is overkill now but it is only 50 bucks more. When I built my current computer in 2005 4gb was overkill....
