Haha. Wow, maybe a year ago this would have been a good choice.

At that resolution just go with the 512MB video card, a 4850 might work as well, especially with a little overclocking.

The DFI LP DK P45-T2RS is also a good option to consider, basically the same performance for a little less.

Thread Starter
I ordered the parts, I didn't order the $10 cheaper MB because my brother just wants to get the thing he doesn't want me to waste time looking for reviews of the p45 chipset. We bought the 8GB in a few years I think it will look like a wiser choice than it does today...

I have a very similar rig atm. 1680 x 1050 Asus 4870 512mb. Keeps WoW in upper 50's. Everything runs fine except Oblivion after being very heavily modded (looking to trade 512mb + cash for 1gb version).

I am going to go Q6600 + TRUE + DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R that should be good right? That MB is from the build I was going to do before I got carpal tunnel (see sig)

DDR2 1066 is basically the same price as DDR2 800 which one should I go with?? (Yes I know 1066 is higher binned 800 doesn't tell me which is better though)

Also he wants this to last 3-4 years so I am not sure if we should do 4GB or 8GB, I know 8GB is overkill now but it is only 50 bucks more. When I built my current computer in 2005 4gb was overkill....

4gb for now... 2x2 sticks... if you end up wanting more later... it will be half the price. so if you can get by with 4... just do 4

you can keep the same strategy with the mobo and graphics... get a mobo that does good sli... 2x16 and only one decent card... in a year or two he can get another gpu and atleast keep up with the crowd a little
