Driver Problems

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I got my 9500 GT from XFX in about 2 hours ago. Since then I've been doing nothing but messing with drivers.

I had the 180.84 "GTA4 Beta" drivers installed. I turn the PC off and insert the 9500 GT. Start up windows and it detected the 8800 GTS, and it also detected the 9500 GT, but only as a standard VGA adapter.

So I uninstall the nvidia drivers, run driver cleaner and reboot. Once windows started back up, I installed the 180.84 drivers again. Reboot, and now when windows loads, the screen just goes to black (still on, not standby) and the fan on the 9500 GT ramps up to 100%. I've left it sitting there for 10 minutes and it does nothing.

I have also tried the last WHQL 180.48 drivers in the exact same process as above. It's driving me nuts.

Help please?

EDIT: I'm in safe mode now and it detects both cards. So why does the screen go black when I try to start windows regularly?

Just did some tests without the 8800 in the mobo.

9500 GT in 1st PCI-E slot = Load up windows perfectly

9500 GT in 2nd PCI-E slot = Black Screen & Fan ramp up

9500 GT in 3rd PCI-E slot = Load up windows perfectly.

8800 GTS in 1st PCI-E slot and any combination with the 9500 GT = Black screen & fan rampup

Try some older drivers maybe. I've heard the 180's are a bit troublesome.

Try this: while in safe mod, go to the 'device manager' and under 'display adapters'
right click > uninstall - both 8800 and 9500 drivers, re-boot try to load windows not - safe mod, if it works try to install the drivers on the disc (9500GT disc) and check if it works, when I've had problems with my ATi drivers deleting thru- device manager helped me a lot..
gl

EDIT: Try it with 8800 on the 1st slot and 9500 on the 3rd

Well I've been busy all day doing reformats and reinstalls of drivers.

I'm on 178.24 now and PhysX works. Problem is that I have to use the VGA cable for the older drivers which sucks balls.

Any idea why it just black screens on 180+ drivers?

Could just be a bug. Maybe talk to nVidia support to report it now you have found out the weak link.
