Should I upgrade fans on Antec 1200?

Thread Starter
Just looking for some advice as to if I should upgrade my fans for the Antec 1200.

My core i7 at stock clock speed is running at

core 1 - 44
core 2 - 38
core 3 - 43
core 4 - 35

temps while just doing things like browsing the internet. When I play something like WoW it goes up about 3 degrees each.

My NB temp is usually around 27 - 33 degrees and VREG from 50 to 55. System about 25-30.

These temps seem a little high to me, mainly the CPU temps. If I upgrade the fans in my Antec 1200 will I probably see a drop in temperature? Also what fans should I be looking at? I'd like quiet fans... but if they are worse than the stock fans then that would defeat the purpose!

That isn't too bad, I would say the temps are good but some people just want to have the lowest temp possible. If you want the temp to go down you could always get better fans with better airflow.

No... Upgrading fans on the 1200 won't make any significant impact on your temps. I am assuming you've turned all fans to medium or high (Can't really tell anymore for the fronts since it uses a dial). What will make a significant impact however is:

1. Post your setup

2. Get TRUE for 1366 socket.

3. Enjoy

please fill in specs here

Honestly, you would most likely see a bigger temp drop from a better cpu cooler, but I don't know what cpu cooler you have.

Honestly, I don't think you will get much of a difference on your core temps by switching case fans. The max temp for the core i7's isn't released yet by intel yet, but i'm sure you are well under it

Those temps are fine though for your cpu.

I updated all my specs.

I'm actually using the thermalright ultra 120 extreme. Maybe I just botched putting the heatsink on?

I would just like to overclock, and I would rather see these temperatures at 3.8 instead of 2.66 you know?

If you get better fans it would help move the heat out better. That's IMO. You could try a reset and if your still not satisfied then try a few better fans. Have you tried to o/c and see how much the temperatures actually go up?

No I haven't. Maybe I should just try and reapply my thermal compound.

I did it like the instructions said, a thin line on the CPU, and then a small dot on the bottom of the heatsink. I'm starting to think that this was too much and it became uneven possibly resulting in higher temperatures? I was hoping to see low 30's for CPU at stock and about 40's at OC.

Are there any programs I can download where I can monitor my temps? Right now I'm using the EVGA E-LEET.

yes you put too much on. you only need a line on the CPU. you don't need a dot on the bottom of the HSF.
