if you put XP on that rig you'll get lynched...

they started phasing it out ages ago.... im sure the only ppl still using it are those ppl who hate change, & ppl who think they get an extra few fps or points in 3dmark....

i await the flames...

After Vista SP1, there is no reason to put XP on a machine unless it can't handle Vista. Your machine will do perfect with Vista, I would recommend Vista x64. It will seem a little different at first, but you will like it if you have an open mind. With 4+GB of RAM, I found Vista to be a lot "faster" than XP due to the caching of everything with Vista.

DaisukeJP, I did some research and this set of memory from OCZ overclocks quite well. The IC's are micron d9gmh.

Voice, thanks for pointing that out. No one ever really mentions that. Win2k3 Enterprise and Win2k3 Data Center 32-bit are among those that support 4GB+ memory.

Skunksmash, that doesn't mean Microsoft won't support it or continue putting out updates for the OS. You also have to understand that a lot of large companies with 1,000+ employees still run Windows XP. There's really no point in switching to a new OS. There is far too many costs involved (imaging, training, hardware support ect). Our WSUS server is still pulling updates from MS so I don't think that means the OS is completely phased out

Good luck

Way to assume there.

To be perfectly honest, skunksmash, I haven't used Vista to this point for one reason, and one reason only: I don't want to buy something I don't need. Your assumption is, frankly, quite asinine and remarkably way off the mark.

I don't fear change; I do, however, think very carefully about any and every change that needs to be made.

Don't assume, because you know what that makes you...

Vista was worth every single penny over XP.

Whenever I use XP it is like going back to windows 98. blah

Oh... I'm pretty sure the military has hardware more than good enough to run even FSX... But that's neither here nor there.

thlnk3r's point about not using Vista if you already have XP is valid as well, of course. Consider this: Mighty Intel decided against using Vista, citing that the benefits of changing over to a whole new OS are far outweighed by the costs and penalties. And most corporate climates have made this same decision as well.

Of course, if someone were to give me a free legit copy of Vista, I'll run it. I want to experience it and form my own judgments accordingly. But I simply will not buy it. Not at its ridiculous price.

HAHAHAHA

Any way, I used Vista 64 for a while but I ran into some incompatibilities with certain programs, I went back to 32 and have not had any problem, maybe I get some more ram to take advantage of the 64 bit, by the way those rams look pretty good
