those would off course work perfect with the Vista OS..

I just got a AMD Athlon X2 6000+ @ 3.3Ghz
won't that bottleneck my games in vista?

I'll step over to the Phenom II or just Phenom in a month or 2..
No, vista isn't as much as a resource hog as everyone says.

Infact in games it uses less than XP SP3 (don't know about 2)

I had the same problem on trying to figure out "the four gig" issue when I was building my current computer. I chose XP over Vista because I felt that Vista had really nothing to offer to me 'personally' except for DX10 (Which I don't really care about) and a nice GUI. After reading around about Aero on Vista and that you just have to get used to a new browsing system or disable it I ended up just going with XP Pro 64-bit.

I felt more inclined to XP Pro 64-bit because I have used XP for so long and really wasn't ready do adapt in any way to Vista. Since I was really after Vista for its nice GUI, you can download tools such as the "UXPatcher" and google 'Vista Theme for XP' and you will get many results on how to make your XP Pro look just like Vista.

All-in-all either OS will work great for the basic thing you want which is full 4Gig support. If you are looking for DX10 support go with Vista, but if that doesn't bother you go with XP Pro.

Hope this helps you some! Good luck!!!

64 bit vista is the way to go. Now it's been patched and updated, it runs most games a few FPS faster than XP. Also, you get DX10 and it'll use all 4GB of your RAM

Just one more thing. XP wont see all 4 gigs of ram... but it will see most of it. Usually people will see 3.25 gigs or something like close to that, so the 4 gigs of ram wont be a "waste" like people say it will, you just wont get all of it in 32bit XP.

Good luck

i am a member of the largest vista support forum on the planet, & there are thousands leaving XP now we are managing to shed the unfair bashing its received. (that don't make me a fanboy, just a realist)

3 years ago when you had a P4 i bet you thought these new spandangally dual cores were a fad which Weren't needed, now its commonplace...
Skunksmash, see post #13 for my response. Seeming Windows 7 will be out in a year or so, Vista will probably have a shorter shelf life then XP. Let's not also forget XP will still have support through 2014.

As stated in my previous post (#13), perhaps on a consumer level people are switching from XP to Vista but not on a enterprise level. It's far to expensive for such an upgrade that doesn't really provide any new benefits. I work at a business that houses 8,000 employees. So just imagine the costs behind such a minuscule upgrade. So the fact is, not everyone is going to Vista like you think they are

Personally I found some of the management tools to be nice within Vista but I had troubles getting the admin pack to work(active directory tools ect). At home I see no reason to shell out a few bills for a new OS. Will it improve my frames in TF2? Maybe but I'd rather spend the money on hardware.

Good luck
