EVGA 750I SLI FTW Northbridge Fan Loud!

Thread Starter
Hey fellow OC'ers,

FIrst off I dont know if this should be in Motherboards or Cooling sections, but regardless, as of late I have grown to be very annoyed at the loudness of the EVGA 750I SLI FTW boards northbridge Fan. The little bugger is loud and tinny even at 30%.

Has anyone had any luck switching this with another fan, and if so, which fan and how did you attach it ( seeing as how the dumb sink is angled ).

Thanks!

Marv.

the fan that came with my 780i was also loud. i just connected it to a fan controller and dropped the rpm from 5000 to 2500 and it was more silent than my 120mm fans. Only change in NB temps were less than 5°C

Yea those are both good ideas actually. The problems with putting a new 60mm fan is that i have a TRUE with a 120 MM fan on it, BUT my TRUE is 90% turned from how you have it, so basically my 120MM is sitting right beside ( in front of ) the stock Northbridge fan right now. I dont know if theres clearence for a thicker 60mm fan.

Hey J.HA. You have a very similar setup to mine except the (modded) part on your case. Do you have your TRUE like mine, or is it sideways so your 120 pushes to the rear of the case?

You'll have a lot more clearance if your TRUE is horizontal compared to mine (which is vertical).

I just threw on a 70mm fan off a stock AMD dual core HSF I had lying around and set it to 50% manually in the BIOS. It's a higher CFM fan, so even at half speed it still keeps my northbridge as cool as the stock HSF at 100% speed. Can't even hear it over my other fans.

I bought an antec spot cooler and took out my stock fan for the north bridge for my 780i. It dropped the temps down 5C and is a lot more quiet. Click the link in my sick for a pictures.

If the front case fans you have are not very good, these will make a huge differnece in case temps. Scythe Slip Stream Kaze Jyuni 120MM Fan 1900RPM 110.3CFM 37DBA

Put them back to back wherever you can. Oh, they are a bit noisey at high RPM(quieter then most), but air cooling comes with noise wether you like it, or not.
