One core in High load?

Hey

I recently installed a tuniq tower for my q6600, when i use core temp to monitor it core 2 seems like its always under 80-92% load the temperatures are fine.

Also when i hooked it up i put the 2 pin into the 3 pin connector on the mother board, could this be the problem? or did i not mount it correctly?

thanks

Something in windows has an affinity to core 2. IT's not that big a deal, really. Windows tends to hog one of my cores and leaves the other one to pick it's nose most of the time.

The tuniq tower comes with a 2-pin fan? It should have a fourpin fan in there...if the fan spins, however, you are good.

Do you mean the fan connector? They are usually either 3 (or more commonly) 4 pin connectors. Which two pin connector are you referring too?

To run a quick diagnose try this:
-press alt+ctrl+del
-go to the "processes" tab
-click on the "CPU" column - if one core is @80% this would make the process @20%CPU - search the culprit thru the processes that need around that much and you'll see which one loads your core

It's fine, but very odd. That fan should have at least a 3-pin, 4-pin is the standard these days.

And yes, it's 100% ok that your desktop is hogging one core. If your games refuse to use more than one, however, something funky is going on. My games load up evenly for the most part, except those that are not at all multi-threaded(But they're so old they run fine on one core anyways). Most games will use two of your cores, some three, and a select few will use all four.

If games run smoothly, ignore it. Windows is using a semi-intensive process that isn't multi-threaded, or isn't intense enough to bother splitting across cores.
