Because of static discharge? Should have grounded himself to the case first.

My goodness man you're a genius! It was in the news section a while back. RoG boards do qualify for cross-shipment! Sure I'll rep+ you but I kinda want to hug you too.

Yes it is my fault but I'll admit I have never grounded myself prior to plugging in a USB device. This was just freakish.

1394 and the other systems seem to be unaffected but all USB support is hosed. Now if I try the back panel ports I get some weird saying the drive may not be mounted properly.

I'm not unprepared though. I always keep a recent image of this system on an external. I also have a trusty Abit P35 that is going to fill in while the Asus is away.

No, just no... all he did was plug in something to a USB port.
It's not like he opened up the case and started rubbing his hands all over the board.

USB devices like my mouse, keyboard, and controller are working so that's good but drives/storage media are either no even mountable or are showing file errors left and right. Just to play it safe I'm going to bring the system down and swap in a P35 until I square off with Asus.

Ah man, I did something SOMEWHAT similar the other day....was actually a little more stupid .

While I was cleaning up my wire job, and installing my secondary PSU, I accidentally clipped my card reader's USB cable. And RIGHT ON the darn plug, so there is little to no chance I can possibly jerry-rig it to work (twisting wires and electric tape came to mind).

So I know how you feel about stupid user mistakes . Granted your problem wasn't ENTIRELY your fault...as you were just plugging in a USB device into a machine that was fully built and put together.....mine was just me not paying attention to where my wire clippers were going. But STILL!

When I was building my sig rig I cut myself on the CPU cooler fins (REALLY SHARP). Looked like I got into a bar fight or something. My parents heard words out of my mouth they never heard before. From anyone. Hope everything gets back to normal for you soon.
