Overclocking Q6600 on Gigabyte EP45-DS3L motherboard

Thread Starter
Hi Im new to overclocking so forgive me if I ask some questions that have been asked here millions of times. I have a Intel Q6600 quad core cpu, 4GB Gskill 800mhz ddr2 ram, a Gigibyte EP45-DS3L motherboard and a Geforce 8800GTX I am going to use a Zalman CNPS-9700-NT Processor heatsink/fan for overclocking the Q6600
Will anyone on these forums give me some tips on how to overclock the
Q6600 in the motherboards BIOS and can I also ask what temperature is recommended for keeping an overclocked cpu stable?
Thanks in advance

Welcome to OCn...........in bios under MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.) where it says CPU Host Frequency (MHz) punch in 333......that'll give you a nice 3.0GHz oc for starters ......if you decide to go higher try to stay under 60C for best results......you can download cpu-z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php after you boot into Windows and take a screenshot to see what your setting are at......also download coretemp http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ to monitor your temps

Oh I forgot to ask are there any other settings I have to set in the BIOS apart from the cpu host frequency to overclock my cpu?

for 3.0GHz most of the time you won't need to.......once you start going higher you'll need to adjust cpu core voltages...if you scroll down in the M.I.T. section you'll see ******Mother Board Voltage Control****** and it's under >>>CPU....CPU Vcore......whatever your voltage is......[Auto]
.......try not to go past 1.5v

I used to have that cooler. You can probably get 3.4-3.5GHz and have decent temps with the Q6600 (<70C).
