Lapped cpu! Lapped heatsink? - Page 2

the zalman has a concave base, did you lap it properly?

Is it flat using a straight edge corner to corner?

Is the IHS of your cpu flat using a straight edge corner to corner?

Which TIM did you use, AS5 requires "burn in" time, others like MX-2 and TX-2 do not require "burn in" time

In my experience you should see an 8-10°C improvement if the lap is done correctly

I've lapped stock coolers, Zalman coolers and Thermalright coolers with similar end results.

Care to share your lapping methodology?

Lapping only makes a difference for about 2-3 degrees? Hope you didn't expect an uber change ^^

Kurosu, I also recently did a lap (WAITING FOR THE DIGICAM FOR PICS SO HOLD ON). My temps immediately dropped 2C, probably because of the reseat and AS5. Anyhoo a few days later I hit a 5-6C drop. Used to idle at 47, now I idle around 42 Give it a few days to break in.... and if you did what I did the first time don't coat it in thermal paste like it's a brownie

I didn't lap the heatseank cuz it looked so shiny, I only lapped the cpu. I used the Zalman thermal compound. Oh well. I'll see in a couple of days for a burn in time.

Ok, thanks! I'll wait a few days. I coated it like a brownie, but just a thin layer, I don't think I used too much... or at least I hope. Thanks for the speedy responses and help with all my noob questions!!!!!

I don't get it... the as5 website says 200+ hours? lol is that right? is my temp drop going to get even better? But yeah if you don't notice any temp drops within a week then I suggest doing some reseating/re-pasting and maybe even start lapping the hs =/
