Hello, I'm new to building my own computer and i would like it to be pretty good for 3000$,or less.
Any suggestions, And yes i will be attempting to overclock it.

hello crash and welcome to OCN.

You can get almost any setup with 3 grand.

id suggest checking out the water cooling section of this forum for cooling ideas.

As for a rig. The new I7 cores are the way to go. But one this you did not state was are you going to be using this rig for gaming?

ram.. just w/e you choose. get a 4 gig kit tho at speeds capable of a high FSB

do you already own a monitor?

if youget into games. the 4870x2 video cards are rocking it pretty hard. as well as the x260 216 nvidia cards.and ofcourse your choice of SLI

for media storage there are good bang for buck

if you want faster HD look at some with higher RPM ratings.

i would suggest to you, to either crossfire two 4870 singles, or crossfire two GTX 260. the 4870s right now are the better but by a small margin.

i couldn't say about speaker recommendations if you want a theater setup. i use headphones.

HOLY! 3 GRAND!?!??!? OH MY GOD!...get TRI-SLi Nvidia GTX 280 graphics cards...a 24+" monitor, a corsair hx1000 psu, corsair dominator ddr3 (core i7 ram) the core i7 920, ASUS rampage extreme II x58 motherboard, a fatality sound card, definettly water cool it with scythe ultra kaze case fans

or...

an e8600 cpu with a asus rampage extreme motherboard, 2 4870X2s in crossfire, a fatality sound card, water cool it and ultra kaze fans, 24+" monitor hx1000 psu, corsair dominator ram.
