Help me pick my parts

Thread Starter
Hey guys. Xmas is coming soon, and that means money for me. I plan on upgrading my current system below (yea, it's pretty bad) to something faster. My main use of my PC is gaming. I've got all my parts picked out and set in stone except for a Video Card, CPU, and Mobo. Right now, it's down to 2 choices.

I can either use my nVidia 9600GT that I have laying around and buy a Asus 750i and a Q6600.

OR

I can buy a Athlon 64 X2 (3.2 GHz), this mobo, and a HD 4850.

All the other parts are set in stone, and I have to chose between these. What I really want you guys to help me figure out is which would give me better FPS in games. I play TF2, L4D, and COD4. So whichever will give me the best frame rates is what I am going for.

Thanks for reading, and rep for help.

Q6600 and the 4850 and a cheap mobo that supports both (if on budget)!

I cant get the Intel cpu and mobo AND A video card. I have to either use the 9600 I have with the intel, or I can get the ATI card with the AMD cpu and mobo. the reason I can get the card with the AMD stuff is it's cheaper, and my budget allows.

Duel core and high clock is better for gaming. unless you can get the quad to equal clocks.

On that note i recommend
msi p43
and
intel e5200
and the 4850 paired with a good overclock on the cpu you should be set.

edit: btw the total of the cpu and board is $167

Get the Q6600. p45 mobo(or used p35 on OCN,. they go for like $50) and use that 9600gt until you got enough $$ to upgrade to a 4850.

Get the E7200 with the Asus P5Q Motherboard and the 4850.

EDIT: A lot of people recommend the P5Q over the 750i because its a P45 chipset and in my experience Intel chipset are more stable and have less failure rate than Nvidia base chipset.

lol. I'm telling you guys I can't buy a video card if I get anything Intel. It would be too expensive.
