Noob with a few questions

Thread Starter
So i have decided to undertake the task of building my own computer. I am ind of at a stand still on which graphics card to get though.

So far i have acquired an antec 900 case, corsair tx750 power supply, and a samsung 22" monitor, along with some other minor stuff. I bought most of it because it was on sale or what not and carried good reviews with it.

I plan on running vista home for the dx10, support of ram above 3g and 64bit.

Im building the computer strictly to game on, I have my macbook for my school work and internet stuff.

Right now I only play world or warcraft because of the limitation of my macbook, but i would like to get into alot of other pc games including FPS's.

Im kind of dead set on a graphics card with a nvidia chip set more because that what all my friends have run, but that's about it. Im not really to against ATI but from what i have read it seems to just be peoples own personal preference a lot of the time.

Plan on running a Core 2 quad processor, because i dont want to go crazy with stuff to support the i7 chips.

I also would not like to spend a tremendous amount because I am currently a college student and on a limited budget. While kind of contradictory to my last statement $500 is about the max I want to spend on a card or cards.

So is sli/crossfire really necessary for high end gaming?

Or should I buy a sli/crossfire ready mobo but buy a single high end graphics card and then if I ever need to buy a 2nd graphics card and run it sli/crossfire later on? (ex. 1 $500 card)

Or buy sli/crossfire mobo an run 2 lesser but still decent cards? (ex 2x $250 cards)

Thanks for the help
-Luv

Oh and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115131

was the processor I had in mind.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130373
and two of those for graphics cards. But that might be a bit much cooling and power supply wise i think.

If you're set on doing two 260's go for the 216 core.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130398

The 750w corsair psu should be plenty to power two of those.

for the cpu i'd get this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115041 this is a very good cpu....i've seen 4.0GHz with good air cooling.......EVGA GTX260 is a great card but yes the Core 216 is better.........since you gonna get the 780i then you can always go sli later, and the Q9550 should keep up no problem

for starters yes i think this would be enough.......so Q9550....EVGA 780i....EVGA GTX260 Core 216.......4GB RAM for sure........Vista Premium 64bit.....you'll have a killer rig......plus since you're getting a 22 inch monitor gaming on high settings shouldn't be a problem.....and the psu you mentioned earlier...the Corsair 750 is good.....but.......this one is better http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703009 this one will even power two GTX260s if you decide to go sli later
