Need a solution for cooling my NB.

Thread Starter
I just got my system back up and running after a major update. The probelm I am running into is the NB temps are just stupid.

I have tried reseating with as5, and adding a fan to no avail.

My only solution seems to be water cooling the nb.

So my question is should I do just the NB or should I go ahead and do the video card as well?

I would also appreciate any guidance on what parts to use for each setup. I have no experiance with water and it makes me a little nervous.

have you tried air cooling the NB heatsink. Thrown on an Enzotech SLF-1 or a Thermalright HR-05

Ok, perhaps this is not what you are looking for, but I would recommend considering the following, unless water is something you have been looking into for a long time:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835108072

It could save you the hassle of a full blown water block (if that is something you would prefer to avoid).

WC NB cooling is kind of silly.

HR-05 should be fine for a NB.

How "stupid" are your temps? NBs can take a lot of heat.

I have added a 40cm fan to the stock heatsink and my idle temp is now down to 46C and at 50% load it is at 58C.

If I thought a new heatsink would solve the problem I would get on it straight away. However I think the problem is the proximity of a semi hot running GPU that is OC'ed quite a bit.

I also have a window open to keep the temps down, so it is currently about 40F in my bedroom, good thing I like to wear hoodies

HR-05 wont fit between the video card and the cpu cooler.

Those temps are fine. I don't know what needs to be changed.

seriously? if I go to full load the nb temps go over 60C and the machine shuts down, is there a setting I am missing in bios that will let it continue to run over 60C?

I have used a temp gun to isolate it to the nb so I know it isnt a problem elsewhere.

Just get a HR-05. It dropped my NB temps over 10c.

And a 80mm fan:

EDIT: and this should fit between your cooler and video card. Do you have any pics of your rig currently?
