What the heck is wrong with ATI drivers

Thread Starter
8.12 drivers keep crashing on crashing. I uninstall then reinstall play for a few days and then they crash my rig. This is an ongoing thing with ATI drivers. It seriously is enough to make me want to buy Nvidia again. I never had any issues with Nvidia drivers and these ATI ones are killing me. The last stable drivers that I had were the 8.7 drivers and they are no longer available. So what the hell can I do because I have about had it, and I am sooo PO right now .

I guess rollback to 8.11 and see it those are stable. Otherwise stick with Nvidia.

Have you tried toning down your system OC?

Also, try Driver Cleaner Pro to remove drivers in safe mode. Otherwise I would recommend a format and reload, it normally fixes driver hickups.

If you've swapped card brands (ATi/Nvidia) without doing a complete OS re-install, I would say your best shot is to do just that. There's just so much left over from the other card that it's probably best to start off fresh.

The 8.11 driver did the same thing, The 8.7 were fine, and the 8.8 were good, and I think that the *.9 driver were pretty good. I have had trouble with 8.10, 8.11, and now after eagerly awaiting the 8.12 I have the same issues. Thanks you.

At stock on everything, temps are between 55-65 load with the VC, and less than 50 on the CPU. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Right... I do it every single time, I run it a couple times and check everything that has ATI in it. I then make sure with DM to see what drivers I am using at first normal boot. The drivers work for a while and then start messing up. Thank you for helping.

I am on new SSD drives all together. Fresh RAID configurations, fresh OS install, but thank you.

Temperatures aren't everything. How much voltage did you put into that thing to get it to 3.5Ghz. Unless you have some insane overclocking chip, its over the Intel Spec limit. It also might not be enough (did you properly stress test (just checking, but even pro's make mistakes sometimes)).

Well like I said this system is NOT overclocked. As far as voltages go I have NOT exceeded Intels voltage spec in Windows. That being said I have reached 3.7 with this CPU so I guess I do have and insane OCing chip TY. I played BF after reinstalling the drivers and the temps were great, and the game played great. I'm sure the issue will be here again Monday though LOL.

If you want the old drivers for XP then check here (Official ATi site and they cover 7.11 to 8.11):

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/x...evious-xp.html

And for Vista:

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/v...s-vista64.html

Ive just noticed your running Vista, your not running 2 4850s are you? If so you will need the 8.12 hotfix drivers from here:

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/v...s-vista64.html

Hope this helps.
