I actually overclocked it to 3.2 with the stock cooler.
All I did was change the BCLK in Manual Mode.
But the system seems slower and more shoddy then a auto default boot up.
So I ordered the Cooler Master whatever V8. I did Prime95 on that overclock and my cpu reached 80C. Also I was losing complete objects like people and cars in GTA IV. So Now I'm back at stock. Its running great without an OC. So My guess is that when I change BCLK and the motherboard compensates by doing something to my memory settings. And doing something bad. theres just so many options there needs a precise guide for achieving different Overclocks. EVGA did it can someone at Overclock.net do it lol. Not being pushy but Ya i know 3.2mhz is low. You can laugh all you want but the fact is I own an i7 haha. But 4.0mhz is almost double. Wouldn't I risk my chip and motherboard. Isn't it bad on the chip to do more than its norm>?
Also, a better cooler will be better for a higher overclock, but other than reducing temps, it won't make anything faster by itself.
Make sure your QPI is not any faster than 8000 GT/s, and the uncore has to be at least 2x the speed of your DRAM. Once you set the 160 bclock, set your DRAM speed to the highest speed that is within its rated specs. I don't know why your system got slower... thats weird.
Also I am shocked at how many unhelpful and outright rude posts there are in this thread...
