Radeon 4870x2 Installation Problems

Thread Starter
I'm trying to build my own computer for the first time and I can't get the Graphics Card to work on my PC.

I'm using

Graphics Card: POWERCOLOR AX4870X2 2GBD5-H Radeon HD 4870 X2

Motherboard: ASUS M3A-H/HDMI AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX

RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2

CPU: AMD Phenom 9950 BLACK EDITION Agena 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 140W Quad-Core Processor

Without the graphics card, it starts up great Vista installed just fine and everything works. However, when I put it in the graphics card and turn everything on, it starts up, and turns off. It shouldn't be overheating, I haven't even stuck it in the case yet. I can watch the POST if I take out one of the power cables attached to the graphics card, it complains that its not in. So I'm pretty sure it gets beyond the POST when I have it properly powered.

What size / brand power supply do you have? That sounds like it might be your culprit.

Yes, with both plugged in it starts and stops. With only one plugged in, I can view the post complaining about it.

You have these pci connectors right?

Do you have the 6+2 pin connected properly, along with the second 6 pin? Not trying to insult your intelligence here, just trying to narrow this down.

edit: I'm getting to slow to help. It's 5:30 in the morning. = /

I hope you get this fixed soon. You're going to love that card.
