Acer Aspire One Netbook Vista Install

Hey Everyone!,

Its getting close to Christmas so, ~Merry Christmas~

I am really trying to find out as much information on installing vista onto my acer aspire netbook as possible, youtube seems pretty good at the moment for seeing people actually managed to get it working and run smoothly.

my current spec is;

Intel Atom 1.6GHz
120GB HDD
512MB RAM

i am going to look into putting another 1GB of memory in to give me that little bit extra performance boost, but not soon. i am probably going to try a few different OS with my netbook, mainly Linux i think.

so far Ubuntu has a problem with detecting my wireless adapter and webcam, i am wondering if the same problem will consist with me installing vista.

Anyone any further information?

Thanks

IMHO Vista won't haveany problem detecting all the hardware in the One, but on 512MB of RAM, you're in for a rough ride.

I think that vista will run OK on 512MB if you disable aero. I used to have a lappy with a 1.4Ghz celly and 512MB RAM and it ran vista fine as long as you turned off aero.

Forget about it. Vista had problems running on my parents computer which had a Sempron 1.8GHZ CPU and 2GB of RAM!

Do not. XP is much better for netbooks. The GPU, CPU and RAM will be nearly constant using a lot of system resources in Vista on netbooks.

i have had a look at the reviews online and videos and stuff for people doing what i want to do and they all have said XP ran terrible compared to vista...

i will have a go with XP and with Vista see which works better for me i suppose, i am just wondering if anyone has or knows of anyone who has done it.

if not i may consider Virtual Machine but i don't think the laptop would cope so good.

The HP 2133 and Asus N10J Both come with Vista already on the laptop, Idk about the HP, but the Asus has 2GB ram and the same HD/Atom Cpu as the others and from the reviews, startup obviously took about 1-1.5 minutes, and it ran a little sluggish compared to XP, but it was still workable, you'd have to get 2GB Ram and OC your cpu to 2.0Ghz for it to be at a decent speed, but 512mb? You can't be serious, it'll be suicide to use that netbook. Upgrade your ram asap.

already mentioned that i am going to be upgrading the RAM, thats going to take place soon but max i can get is 1.5GHz. from what i have researched XP runs ok but Vista basic runs pretty good to run on them.

from what i read ASUS don't run perticually good with the vista my friend has a EEE more or less the same XP and Vista run pretty awful in his honest opinion. i have just been doing a bit of research and so far i have found a few video on YouTube with were pretty useful.

Obviously i am going to upgrade the ram, won't really be necessary if i am on XP at the end of the day its a netbook its not going to be used for games.

How does Vista run better on the same platform from Acer or MSI but runs horribly on Asus netbook? It's the same gpu, same ram, same cpu, same everything? EEE with Vista stock would be slower than Asus N10 with Vista as it has a more powerful GPU and twice the ram.
