boyd...you don't realize the problem with hydrogen. It's EXTREMELY flammable. If you get in an accident...boom. Massive explosion. That's why they don't make them much yet.

Hydrogen fuel cells generates....that's right, ELECTRICITY. Which then drives an electric motor to power the wheels.

Oh it's that simple eh? Molecular bonds are not easy to break. You need (you guessed it) vast amounts of energy.

How do we get energy in this day and age? Fossil Fuels.

I suppose making it ugly causes it to become more environmentally friendly?

Outfitting every service station with hydrogen silos/pumps is so expensive that its not worth it. Not to mention keeping the hydrogen safe - It'd be like having a ticking time bomb every quarter mile. We would have better results funding the current auto companies to R&D electric vehicles, which the government is already doing so they must agree with me.

Thank GOD your not congress then. Its a lot smarter to back a corporation who's product is proven on 6/7 continents and that has the parts suppliers already in place to mass produce electric vehicles.

Besides, Telsa makes one SPORTS CAR... What use is a sub-compact sports car to a truck driver/Rancher/Farmer/Contractor/Mom with 2 kids/Fat guy is beyond me. Ford and GM(Which you were referring to, mostly) already has electric SUVs and Sedans on the road, they are further a head than Tesla is when you look at the big picture.

Hydrogen fuel cells take more energy to make then they put out. They would be better if they were made in a plant using wind or solar.

I know right?

So far, automakers are making electric cars well known for being fugly cars. Tesla being the exception but that's not exactly an inexpensive consumer vehicle.

Why not just take my hood, trunk, and top of my car - embed solar panels in them. That way when I have to plug my car in at the end of the day it doesn't need that much more to recharge. Also, stick some of those same panels on the roof of my house. Oh, and make it cheaper to do those things cause really the last price quote I had to install a handful of panels on the roof was $40,000 and it would barely be enough to power the AC during summer.
