Well, upping Vcore bit by bit, doing Vantage runs, I could get further into Vantage each time till the 'optimal' point of reaching the end of 2nd game demo. From that point on, upping Vcore (had it at 1.67) caused degradation and made Vantage lock up sooner again.

This probably means I can't get it past Vantage at all unless I'd have more a extreme form of cooling.

@papa.smurf There isn't much more to tweak besides Vcore. The FSB doesn't change, the NB doesn't. Only the core itself was clocked stepping up from my 24/7 of 3.4GHz. The only overclocking change I made for this run was changing the multi from 8 to 9.

The GTLREF lines are modified by my board/bios automatically, nothing much there I could do better than the board does. Upping FSB volts (which is at 1.4) would have no use, nor would upping NB have any use.

It's possible I could get past Vantage @ 3.8GHz, but I sure as hell ain't gonna change my FSB at this time, as I got that all tweaked out to run perfectly stable at 3.466.

Was a nice adventure this overclock though

Edit: I'm quite bummed I couldn't get Vantage to complete, I bet it would get my system into the OCN top 30 vantage score list

It won't kill your chip to run those temperatures for a few minutes (long enough to complete 5 passes of IBT) but if you intend to keep that OC you'll probably need water.

Holy crap that's hot. I wouldn't have let it reach temps like those. I have run 1.6vcore to reach 3.5 on my machine(my vid is 1.3250) and never went above 70. That pick makes me wanna cringe.

BOOYA!!

Direct Image Link

About 650 3DMarks more than my 3.4GHz score which was 142xx, just below the 30th of OCN Vantage list. But this score gets me well into the list

Bench finished completely now. It cost me quite some tweaking still. papa.smurf got me thinking and decided what results changing around FSB and NB voltages would yield. Higher made it worse. So naturally I then started to lower them and surprisingly enough I could lower the FSB 0.1V (2 notches) lower without sacrificing FSB stability. It allowed me to up Vcore notch by notch untill Vantage finished completely.

I had RealTemp running throughout the Vantage run so you can see max temps. Mind you, the Vcore CPU-Z shows is the idle Vcore, under load it drops to 1.636V

Dayum this was ****loads fun just for the sake of benching

Oh it's not THAT hard lol. Check my CPU-z in sig, and my 3dmark06 run

Still trying to hit 20k lol

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=9283404

Just an FYI mine is a 1.300 VID and i used 1.58vcore to get the 4.0GHz to run through the tests. You shouldn't need 1.66v

Nice bench. Temps just skirting the edge of what I'd be comfortable with. Maybe time for a TRUE Black or water or something.

@ljason8eg: It's as hard as the limits of your particular CPU For mine I consider 3.9 past its sensible limits given the voltage I threw at it. I like yours, 3.7GHz at "only" 1.48

Trust me, it really needed the volts in order to complete the bench. The turn-around point for my chip is around 3.5GHz, past that it wants exponentially more food

Edit: Anyways, after this fun I'm just going to set the multi back to x8 and back to the comforts of the 3.4GHz 24/7 setting with much less volts lol
