Untangle Club - Page 12

Not up and running yet, waiting on a fan controller to quite my Xeon HSFs down a bit (they run at 4k RPM all the time, and I have no other way to control it...stupid 604 boards ) but my Untangle box is going to be:

2x 2.8GHz hyper-threaded Xeons
3GB RAM
Intel Pro 1000/MT dual gigabit NIC
320GB SATA boot drive
2TB storage drive

Running Untangle in a VM on a Win 2k3 box that's going to be a home file server. I figure 2GB to the VM should do it fine.

Serving up between 3-6 PCs, and whatever other devices want to stream my massive Anime collection (like my PS3).

New user here.
I loaded it onto an old Socket A rig, 2ghz 768mb ram, nforce2 board with a 2nd PCI NIC thrown in. And a really old ata33 20gb drive...

Has been working MUCH better than Smoothwall, which didnt like my DD-WRT router for some strange reason, couldny get ANY ports to forward.

I will be taking the socket A box out and putting in a Dell poweredge 1750 1u server in its place.
Dual gigabit intel nics, 2x 74gb 15k rpm scis drives and 3ghz Xeon cpu and 2gb ECC ram.

Heh, and will be expanding that by adding another matching cpu , another 2gb of ram, and maybe a PCI-x Intel NIC for DMZ...to play with.

Will post back when the poweredge is setup.. I left the house with it installing.

Does any one know how this would do for Untangle?

Biostar Viotech 3100+

I assume it should work fine once I add a PCI-E 1x NIC, but I just wanted to verify.

If possible I might also just install VMware ESXi on here, and run Untangle in 1 VM, and a home file server in another.

I had uuntangle running on my VIA C3 800Mhz. The key is to have a lot of RAM. That should run fine.

FUUU, moved to a dedicated UT box (ProLiant GL320 G2 1U) and for the life of me can't find out what is blocking Steam (server browser can't populate).

I've turned all the apps off and still nothing, everything else is default.

It's usually the firewall that will block it. I cannot access my Untangle box now but I had to setup 3 rules. Just google ports for steam and set it up.

I turned everything off so nothing was being monitored, no difference.

Marma Duke, try looking at a connection limit or DoS filter. The Steam browser literally makes a couple K of connections and can easily trigger DoS filters and so on.
