Just setup Untangle on a hopelessly old 1U Compaq Prolient.

1x 1133 mhz P3
2 GB RAM (just added, used to have 256 mb)
1x 9.6 GB SCSI drive.

Untangle only uses something like 512 mb of RAM, and only 5GB of the hard drive with all the basics installed (firewall, spyware blocker, and a few others).

I plan on using it for DHCP and as a firewall. So:

1 mbps connection-> Untangle box->WRT54GL

Overkill? Yes, but it should be fun.

Now I just need to find a way to trick the PSU into thinking its 2 fans are spinning; they are way too loud, but when I stop one of them the whole system immediately shuts down.

Just finished installing untangle n a P4 HT, 2 gig ram, 120 gig hard drive. my setup layout is Verizon fios 20/20 ---> Untangle box ------> Buffalo DD-Wrt switch (w/wireless) -----> 8 port Dlink gigabit switch. Can any one help me with the bypass rule setup for my xbox 360 & ps3. I dont want the rack to monitor any traffic on xbox 360 or ps3. I read that adding xbox 360 & PS3 to bypass allows them to game without any problem.

Just installing now. I believe it's a 1.2 Ghz CPU and just bought 2 gigs of DDR 3200 ram and a new hard drive. So if I like it I might upgrade some stuff.
And the weird thing is my computer wouldn't boot the first time with 2 gigs of ram installed.

Well got everything set up. I have 2 routers. One's a Linksys BEFSR81, which is an 8 port router. The other one is a Linksys WRT54G, which is wireless and has DD-WRT installed on it. I did a hard reboot on the WRT54G, and now can't get into the stupid thing.
But everything is running good so far. Just have to play with the settings a bit more, and also get my other gig of ram working with the PC. Dosen't seem to want to boot with 2 gigs installed.

This looks like quite a good program, just have a question:
Im thinking of using pfsense and now also considering this, from what i have read, will using untangle mean that i can safely disable my firewall/AV on the machines on my network? (from what i gather this scans everything that comes in anyway)

Also the specs of the system ill be using are:
P4 3.0 with HT
512mb DDR RAM
8GB IDE HDD (hope that enuff)
Onboard NIC + Intel NIC

I think that will be ok, comments?

Well, im a proud new user of untangle and would just like some confirmation that im using a decent untangle setup, mine is as follows
--internet
|
--modem router (Netcomm NB1300PLUS4, bridge mode (not so sure if bridge mode is working right)
|
--Untangle PC (P4 3.0, 512mb ram, onboard/expansion ethernet cards)
|
--Dlink DIR-300 Wireless G/4Port Ethernet Router
|
--Home Network PC's (1 wireless/2 wired)

Opinions/improvement suggestions? im liking it so far, the virus and attack blocker etc are nice features, and the web UI is very nice and polished. I really love that server rack UI, looks sleek.

How much CPU % and RAM does Untangle use constantly?

I was thinking of running it on VMware on my sig rig. Would it even be worth it to run it on my sig rig since this is also my CPU/GPU crunching and gaming rig. Performance decreases?
