I'd say either Q9550 or AMD Phenom.

People are suspecting Phenom will sit between i7 and Q9550. I am still not too persuaded by this until I see more benchmarks.

And, AMD uses 125W @ stock, while Q9550/Q6600 uses 95W. If you overclock it who knows how much it uses. (Like Q9550 uses far less wattages for OCing than Q6600)

I'd say anything of those 3 would be ideal, just depending on your need.
Q6600 for budget and not so crazy on chasing new technologies, still really fast and OCs very easy

Phenom 920 can OC to 4 Ghz on air, but not sure now it competes with Q9550 @ 4 Ghz.

Q9550.

OC's better. is faster clock for clock, runs cooler, and uses less power.

you can use your HDTV in the meantime while you save your cash for the new monitor.
