Didn't know where to post this so..

Hi everyone, im new here. First of all, if i have posted this in the wrong place then i am sorry to do that, but i guess because my chipset isnt intel or amd this was the most logical place to post it.

I really want to learn more about overclocking. I managed to overclock my old pentium4 1.8ghz and got it upto a stable 2.2ghz with standard cooling only using the fsb and over-volting a little as it multiplier locked Managed to keep it under 50 deg most of the time so i was happy with that.

I have now got a p4 2.53 ghz cpu with a SIS651 chipset. The problem i am having is that i simply cannot access any overclocking settings. I have tried moving the CMOS jumper, but all it did was make my mobo beep at me and refuse to boot at all. I have the AMI bios and cannot do anything at all in there. All options are greyed out and its really bugging me.

I also thought i could overclock in windows, so i downloaded clockgen, as i thought this would work, but it doesn't. I can see the clocks, but again, there are no sliders or anything adjustable for me. I have googled and searched the web for a solution but i cant find anything that works.

I was able to get an approx 20% increase in speed out of my old rig so i hope to be able to get this 2.53ghz processor up to somewhere near the 3.0ghz mark if not further, as this cpu runs alot cooler with 'stock' settings than my old one ever did. My old one used to idle at about 42 degrees, and this one sits at a cooler 34 degrees. Even after 3 hours of serious load i have never got it over 41.

I play alot of games (Live for speed) and i am told that my cpu is the main bottleneck of my system so i am eager to get it going a bit faster if possible.

I will add attachments of everything PC wizard tells me about my machine to give better details.

So, is this setup overclockable in any way?? Many thanks in advance.

welcome dan. please fill out your system specs here so we can take a gander at what you are working with. However, as with most pre-built computers, overclocking is quite limited but we will see what we can do!

If this is a pre-built system you may not be able to overclock it. And I don't really reccomend software overclocking, it can cause OS corruption and quite a few problems.
Anyway, welcome

Wish i could help but I know nothing about clockgen.
Pm a mod and ask them to move to the intel cpu section

This is Chipp he should be able to help if not to busy i would thinkhttp://www.overclock.net/member.php?u=4089

More than likely the BIOS is locked from the OEM builders so unfortunately your not able to OC. Sorry but it goes that way sometimes. I have a Compaq thats locked so I understand.

P.S. Optical drives are your CD/DVD drives...
