software for converting, importing and orginizing my audio.

Thread Starter
I am looking for a program that will convert my files most of which are a mix of formats, I am thinking of goign high quality MP3 or even WMA even ACC would be fine , I just want to make everything the same format and have the file names and tags saved, I really don't feel like re doing 160 gigs of file names again.

I am wanting to use song bird for my audio player my library is currently compiled by itunes and I am having issues with the M4a files in song bird, so I figure make them all MP3 or something, apple stuff in general is ticking me off as of late. I have the proper addons and every thing and song bird can see the files and the tags for them but cant play them.

long story short, I have been through the hoops that are supposed to make them play but it is still a fail.

so I am looking for suggestions for what to use, I guess if I have to use itunes I will. but something else would be nice .

I should note that hard drive space is not an issue as I have over a TB of space available to me if needed

I should yes, I have nero 7 I believe. I am not to crazy on spending $100 for nero 9 at least not at the moment, that's what is it at the nearest BB store

I would prefer freeware if that's even possible.

Sounds like iTunes put DRM on them so Songbird can't play them.

COMA, the files played just fine in songbird 0.7 but with version 1.0 they will not
DRM is evil I believe its the work of the devil or sony not sure which
I know a couple of the snogs do have drm on them but that's only about 20 songs out of the 1000's I have so I know its not just a drm issue. I think its just a mp4/m4a/aac siel type issue and the code doesn't work, that's why i wan to just change the files to a different format. plus if i ever do go to a different player chances are MP3 will be supported

dBpoweramp is friggn' amazing. I just purchased the reference version 13.1 last night, and holy crap it's so good! The multi-core encoding/decoding is so sweet, its so nice to be encoding an entire album and watch it do 4 songs at once! I put in a request to support more than 4 threads, so that it may take advantage of the Core i7 with 8 threads. Now that would be amazing.

It also has access to the best album art and info service on the net as well as a really good CD ripper that uses AccurateRip to make sure you get a bit perfect rip from a CD, even a scratched or damaged one.

I used to use the old free version of dBpoweramp, R10. I have finally seen the light. 13.1 reference really is that good, and at $36 it is a steal.

they worked with songbird 0.7 its just a problem since I upgraded to version 1.0

I know I have a couple DRM files but I would say 99% of my library is all open and unrestricted. they play in foobar but I do not like that program its just a user preference.

Nothing special about that.
That's not multi-threading, it simply is flat out running 4 instances of the encoder at the same time.

Just like you would do if you used a single threaded stress test on a quad core CPU - you'd run 4 instances.

Nothing special about that.

I second dBpoweramp, it's awesome! And I only have the free version.

I just used it to convert my FLAC library to WMA10 VBR for my Zune. Did it in about half an hour (maybe a little more)

And I would recommend Winamp if you want to check out another media player. I tried Songbird at various points during dev, but went back to Winamp.
