wait for the GTX 260 55nm or get a GTX 260 216 now

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, I have a 9800GTX+ and I would liek to know should I sell it and buy the GTX 260 216 core now 65nm or wait until mid 2009 to buy a GTX 260 55nm from other manufacturers like xfx or something, or will the 55nm 260s be exclusive to EVGA? cause at my local store they dont sell EVGA GTX 260s yet.

Most manufacturers should have them, give it time, though I don't know if they will be up front in advertising 55nm parts.

The 55nms still a bit more expensive right now, 65nm 216 ones are around $230-$250; 55nm from EVGA is $260 for stock, $270 for OC.

If you want to OC your GTX 260 I would get a 55nm 260, but if you run stock you should be fine with the 65nm core 216.

yea, i hear the performance is almost exactly the same between 65nm and 55nm. Only if you want to overclock will there be a difference. I personally would get a 55nm one now because of all of the Christmas deals going around

Power consumption and heat are also lowered a bit, that might be a bonus even if you don't overclock.

I'd wait. Also when the GTX 295 comes out, prices on all other cards should drop.

Might as well just wait. I got impatient and ordered one last that day that newegg had the 15% cashback. If what they say about the 55nm is true about heat, I'd wait. My card is damn hot, just getting near the case you can feel the heat that it puts out. Its also very hot to the touch.

How hot? GPUs can take higher temps than CPUs. My 8800GT stock cooler reacher 85C, but EVGA says the chip is rated to 100C, but obviously I would never let it go that high.

the jump between the 9800gtx+ to the gtx260 wont be that significant. I would save the money or if you want to spend it, get a 22 or 24in lcd. Then later on down the road make the jump to another vid card.
I heard that it wasn't really worth it to do such a jump unless you're going 3 levels of performance up- so a suitable upgrade for ya would probably be a gtx 280 or 4870x2

But the gtx 295 is just around the corner, why not wait for that?

lol unfortunatly I dont know what I should get, I am an overclocker, I do benchmarking and I have a 22" and I live in aus so no newegg for me but I can buy stuff form a cheap nearby pc store, and im getting a hx520 so I cant run dual cards, and I dont have the money for a gtx 280 or anything higher and I prefer to have a cool card, are you guys aware if xfx is gonna be making the 55nm version cause i dont know if they are, also will it mention on the box whether your buying a 55nm?
