HX1000 Dilemma

Thread Starter
Hey guys i have been having a bit of trouble with my Corsair HX1000 psu. When i first bought it i had no troubles at all, i bought it from frys, but after about 30 days of my purchase i started to get a clicking sound coming from what i believe to be the fan in it. There are no tags or debris impeding the fans rotational path so i think that the bearing is the problem. I have sprayed a WD-40 alternative in it to silence the clicking noise, but this lube job only seems to be a temporary fix to the problem, due to its reoccuring nature. Do you kind gentlemen have any good suggestions for a quick fix to eliminate this clicking noise other than an RMA. I dont think i could live without my computer for 3 days let alone 3 weeks.

Also have i voided my warranty with corsair, via lubricating the bearing inside of the PSU, if so i think that i will replace the 140mm fan with a different one. Any suggestions for a new fan, because there is no problem with the PSU to my knowledge at the moment.

gracious in advance>>

Yate loon 120mm fan would work nicely. Although sometimes the connector inside the PSU isn't the standard plug for the 3-pin. It's sometimes soldered on directly.

They probably won't even realize that you lubricated the fan bearing unless its obvious or you tell them.

Do you have any spare PSU's? Ship out the HX1000 for RMA and use/buy a spare PSU and when you get the new one back return the spare PSU or sell it.

Yes sonic i do have a tagan 1100watt laying around that i RMA'd awhile back, but my 8800gtx annialated the old tagan beast. The tagan psu also can not sustain any overclocking for my Ram or Cpu at all.

That specific Tagan, or the one you RMA'd?

1.1KW should be more than enough - And Tagan isn't half bad either.

I'd try my luck with it and see what happens. Only for about 1-3 Weeks.

Unless you know that specific unit won't cut it.

Are most 120mm fans direct fit for 140mm PSU. Are any of the aftermarket 140mm anygood.

If I were you I would just buy a spare 400w corsair for now because there is no way your rig takes 1k watts to power . While in the meantime RMA your HX1000

The hx1000 uses a Yate Loon d14bh-12. It would be best to find one of those as a direct replacement. If you don't you may have compatibility problems with the fan controller. But then I haven't seen any of those on the retail market.
