How I got the CCC 8.12's to work.

Before You Begin:
You will start by downloading driver cleaner pro or driver sweeper. These programs can be found here.

Driver Sweeper
http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D--...up)_d1655.html

Driver Cleaner Pro
http://www.overclock.net/downloads/1...eaner-pro.html

After you have downloaded and installed these programs you may begin. First off, an important step that many people seem to not do.

1. Close CCC in your bottom right corner in your taskbar, If any CCC services are on turn them off.

2. Run the Catalyst install manager and uninstall, make sure you have all your programs turned off.

3. Reboot in safe mode,

4. Once you are able to navigate in safe mode load driver cleaner or driver sweeper "whatever one you prefer"

Applies to Driver Cleaner Pro:
5. Select multiple cleaning filters and select all ATI options except ATI uninstall utility.

Applies to Driver Sweeper
5. Although there are less ATI options check off ATI display and click remove.

Note
Run the cleaner at least 3 times.

6. Afterwords reboot into normal windows and reload either Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper. You may ask why do this again, it is important! normally after you clean in safe mode you still find some files left over in normal windows.

7. Repeat steps 5 multiple times then reboot. sometimes running ccleaners registry fixer helps with some ati problems. http://filehippo.com/download_cclean...a199d871845fd/

8. After the reboot I uninstall Rivatuner, Reinstall after you are finished. reboot is recommended but you do not have too. This normally makes my Rivatuner bug free

Now that you have successfully cleaned your drivers you are ready to download the 8.1.... nope first off you are going to download the 8.7 catalyst's. This is because normally on your first fresh install of CCC and display drivers your computer will not recognize crossfirex/crossfire.

9. Download CCC 8.7 here

Vista_32bit 8.7
http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Cata...load-1997.html

Vista_64bit 8.7
http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Cata...load-1998.html

XP_32bit 8.7
http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Cata...load-2000.html

Xp_64bit 8.7
http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Cata...load-1999.html

Now you may ask why the 8.7s? Many people believe these are stable drivers and are a good base before installing the 8.12s.

10. After installing the 8.7's run the catalyst install manager and uninstall the current drivers. Afterwords reboot

Now after all this prepping you may now install the 8.12's found here

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

11. Now that you have downloaded the 8.12's, install them as usual and reboot. Now you are good to go.

Extras:
I noticed after doing this that the crossfirex prompt appeared instantly before restarting. If this happens to you and you have trouble normally activating this feature do it before restarting.

Installing Tweaked XG 8.12 CCC
For me, personally these drivers were heaven sent too me with a few extra features I never previously noticed. Along with better IQ and performance I believe they are a must have. instead of step 11 go here to download the tweaked 8.12's

Vista 32_64bit
http://files.filefront.com/XG+Cats+8.../fileinfo.html

XP 32_64bit
http://files.filefront.com/XG+Cats+8.../fileinfo.html

Install these as usual in place of step 11. A few extra features I noticed will be placed below in screen shots of the XG 8.12's below.

Phew, well hopefully anyone having trouble should try this, throwing in any extra steps of yours might also help if you really want to.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Good guide man... except I already had to reformat because of the 8.12's. Not again, well until another upgrade.

BTW geometry instancing really increases the fps in crysis since there are so many trees. What it does is make rerendering faster, say multiple renders of trees, grass, foliage etc. I believe everyone should use the tweaked drivers there amazing. and thx everyone who read it !
