GTX 260 core 216 overclocking

Right now it's at 648/1397/1123, fan speed 47%
I did a burn-in test with Furmark and I got 80 degrees on load

I tried pushing it up to 700 (the first number) but then my gpu just fails
Is it just that I have a crappy card?

Or is there some way where I can make fan speed profiles having the fan spin at like 25% when it's idle and when I game it automatically goes to like 75%?

Mom gets annoyed by the fan noise when it's anything over 50% because it is quite loud.

With a soft called RivaTuner you can OC and edit fan profiles, you could set it @25% is you wish. Still, your OC isn't that bad, only @47% fans speed and stock cooling you can't ask for much more. The 648 core clock for 80°C is quite a lot already, 700MHz would be toasting the card, I highly advice against this OC. In my opinion, after setting the fan speed @25% you should check for stability once more, since it's very likely the temps will rise.

What you could do is to change for an aftermarket cooling, such as the cheap and very powerful Accelero S1 (rev2) with Turbo Module, or the Accelero TwinTurbo. They would alow very quiet operation, with lower temps and probably higher OC. The quiet operation is a very good thing to have when asking for money

Yeah the noise this card makes bothers me the most.. imagine SLI and 3x noisier XD

I use Rivatuner. but how do I edit fan profiles on this thing?
I just want my fan to be on 25% when I'm doing homework and 50% when I'm gaming, and maybe like 80% when I'm on crysis

I'm aware I can get an aftermarket cooler, but the ones you referred to don't mention supporting tx 260 though
