would 2 74gb raptors in RAID 0 be faster than 1 raptor x or velociraptor?

I don't think you are going to be beating this even with 2 Velociraptors:

The price of 3 WD640AALS drives is amazing considering the performance. This is also with the onboard 780i controller until I buy a Dell PERC 5/i

I just paid for 3 x WD640AALS for a 150GB 16MB VelociRaptor.

Yes let's all buy 4 hard drives and run them raid 0 striped for 4 times the througput and then wait for someone to finally make a 2.5 hard drive with 4 platters and 8 heads that reads from all 8 heads at once and is twice as fast.

Let's all buy new motherboard that gangs 2 dual channels and reads from 4 modules at once until they finally get around to making motherboards that use DDR5 that does the same thing from 1 module.

Let's all buy 4 video cards until they finally get around to putting the same number of cores on 1 video card.

That way they can sell us 20 times the amount of stuff to finally end up with the same computer in a smaller size 10 years later.

would appreciate it.

reps waiting.
Sorry man, that would mean I would have to clear my RAID and re-make it. No Can do at this time.

What I was trying to say is that the prices for 3 640GB WD 7,200rpm drives is the same as 1 VelociRaptor. Given the specifications of a VelociRaptor and a standard WD SATA II 7,200rpm, a VelociRaptor should be faster.
