Santa screwed up my PC last night...could use some assistance - Page 3

first of all, take the power plug out. and let the computer drain of any electrical juice it may have. (like leave it unplugged for ~30 mins) and then try to start it back up. If it's still doing that, then clear the cmos. and if it's still doing the same thing, try a stress test of some sort to see if you have any failing components.

When the chkdsk is complete...i will try to give it a shot. The problem with stress testing though is that it will take probably 5 hours to even open up the application. It took just over 3 to get through the startup sequence...and it was still taking 20 minutes for control panel to open after that.

FReakin' Santa Claus... Let me tell you, that guy causes more problems with computers and electronics in general than just about any magical person I know. Basically he moves too fast. And between the massive static charge that builds up from the air resistance and the weird quantum effects he employs it's really a small wonder that we don't wake up to a near-global blackout on Christmas.

Well...chkdsc is done. It did find some bad sectors and it said they were repaired...but the problem continues. Even booting into safe mode takes the same amount of time (hours)...

Gonna try stumped's plan here...wish me luck.

Well...after hours and hours of fun...we finally have a system that is back to usual (minus all overclocks).

The thing that seemed to work was actually replacing the 3v battery for the mobo. Once that was done...we booted right up. Thanks all for the help...lots of great troubleshooting ideas and we got her fixed.

Merry Christmas...and Santa...I take back all those mean things I said.

Yeah - it was wierd...I tried to clear the CMOS a couple of times and that didn't work...but Stumped's idea of clearing all the juice in the board had me thinking i would just replace the 3v battery while I was at it...so...it works. Im not gonna question it - I'll just go with it.

You know many magical people? Can you hook me up with a female one?

Hope your PC comes out alright...
