Why is it doing this!?!?! (Sound is skipping)

Ok, I just built a new computer and the sound is skipping/cutting out really bad. I noticed that it cuts out a lot more when the windows volume is turned higher. I have download the latest sound drivers from Intels website. Anybody know why its doing this? Rep+ for helpful information.

Specs:
Intel Extreme DP45SG (onboard audio)
Q9300
9800GT
2GB OCZ DDR3 1333

EDIT: running vista ultimate 32 bit

Ok this is weird. The sound works just fine if I plug the speaker into the front audio port on the case, but skips like crazy if its plugged directly into the motherboard on the back. Is this a bad connection on the motherboard? Why does it skip less when the sound is turned down?

Ok done a bit of Googling around and your problem sounds fairly unique.
Just a few stabs in the dark but you never know...

Is the board running the latest bios?
It could be a dodgey driver release. When you bought the board I assume it came with a driver CD? Are there any older but maybe more stable drivers on it you could try? Make sure you uninstall the previously installed drivers totally first.
It's not a scenario I've ever heard of personally, but it could be a problem with your board in general? This means you might have to argue with somebody from Intel.
The fact the audio gets choppier when you increase the volume doesn't narrow it down for me, have you tried another OS? You got a copy of XP (c'mon, everybody has a copy somewhere! ) sitting around anywhere?

Edit : My only other idea : (really long shot and shouldn't make a difference anyway. Probably a stupid idea but hey...)
Is the motherboard seated properly in the case against the motherboard's back-plate? The purpose of it is to increase EMI containment at the end of the day, but it still shouldn't make a difference I guess.
