Vista crazy ram usage

Thread Starter
Hi guys, i have currently been running on vista premium x86 sp1 with no problems at all, idling at 20% usage. I decided today i should install the vista ultimate x64 that i had laying around to see what the diffrence is and basically just to upgrade to 64-bit. Anyway the ram usage is going way too high, it idles at 75%!! this cant be right, as when i open some programs up it goes to 90~% usage and really bogs the system down.

What is wrong?

Check your processes. i had a problem with around 30 processes of iexplore running in the background using around 90 percent of 4gb ram. look for anything weird
Edit: run a malware and virus check

That's how Vista works I don't know why specifically x64 does it though, but Vista precaches everything you usually load up at a certain time, and it removes it from the RAM when other programs need RAM space.

Vista always uses about 24% idle on 4GB. About 35% on 2GB.

I had to tweak out mine to get a decent amount at idle, although yours seems really high. Just search "tweak vista" on Google. There are tons of really good guides, and you don't have to be a PhD to do the tweaks. I would also check your processes, though, like everybody else is recommending as well. That sounds like way too much usage.
