I figured that's what he meant, but the fact that brought up that point is a bit silly, considering any performance differences would be attributed to differences in hardware.......lol.

Oh wow that was from a Maximum PC article? Well there you have it.....that magazine is a joke. A real performance enthusiasts magazine (with renowned columnists) is Computer Power User.
TBH the fact that a magazine would even bother to test two PCs running the same OS reflects their lack of knowledge in PC hardware/software in general.....talk about an exercise in futility.
As far as Linux goes, I enjoy running minimalist distros on my old laptop just for browsing the internet. Other than that it's Windows all the way. When I build a file server it will have a Linux distro (most likely CentOS) and Samba....that's about it.Edited by binormalkilla - 12/25/08 at 4:17pm
