Sensor Problem or n00b call

Hey I just built a new system with evga 780i MoBo, e8500 and a HDT Rifle 1283*? i was orignally in a Coolermaster 690 case.... but switched to an antec 1200... my temps in the 690 were around 35-39 idle... then when i put them into the antec... realtemp showed about (31, 37) degrees... with 0 fluctuation and the bios showd 33... i was afraid the sensors somehow when bad in the transition... so im running orthos beta by johnny lee ( small FFTs - stress cpu) its been going for about 11 minutes and the temps rose to (34,37) however the 2nd core is staying at 37...
... so are the sensors acting goofy... or did the case help that much...

It's the same thing at my PC. Idle temps 31 (0) and 42 (1). At small FTTs they both jump to 60. I don't know why..

Could you have jarred your CPU cooler during the case transition? Maybe you're not getting good contact between the CPU and the heatsink, thereby making one of the cores run hotter than the other.

I think you have bad sensors. There is no way the Antec 1200 is that good and i have hands on experaince with the 1200.

The sensors have bottoms to their ranges, which can sometimes be well above ambient temperature. They aren't guaranteed to move until about 50 degrees C. This is documented and so Intel will probably refuse an RMA. Heat up your CPU and you'll see them move.

@ OP

Use Real Temp 2.9 beta RC4 with the new cool down test to ascertain if your sensors are indeed bottoming out at lower readings, are just lazy or in the case of your core1 stuck permanently, my E8600 has one sensor that refuses to read below 35°C whilst the other sensor will read down into the mid 20's, both work perfectly at the upper end of the scale.

As posted above, Intel has stated that these sensors were never intended to display idle temps, you can calibrate Real Temp to reflect reasonable approximations if you so desire.
