Noob - Computer overheats and turns off

Thread Starter
I'm currently having a problem with my computer. Over the last several days my computer has been turning itself off for no reason. I have looked at some of my comps temps and was wondering if anyone could help me out.

I ran a few tests to see if I could figure out what was going on, I'm pretty sure my computer is overheating, it seems like my motherboard tempature was good but my CPU and Core temps were very high. Here are the temps from bios before the computer booted, at this point the computer had been turned off for over 18 hours and sits in a fairly cool room.

CPU: 53C - (note: after a few minutes it went up to 73C)
Mobo: 29C

I then loaded windows and ran SpeedFan and CoreTemp to get more of a guage of the temps of my hardware. I inserted the image links of the temp readings from both programs so you have an idea of the temps when my computer is on. At the time I took the screenshots my computer had been on for only 20 minutes and I had no other programs running. I was hoping someone familiar with this could tell from these readings what is causing the problem. Is it the motherboard, cpu, heat sink or liquid cooling?

Make sure your heat sink is seated properly of course. Noticed you are using water cooling and I'm not up to date on anything of that sort but even if this is coming off as a total noob suggestion I am sorry - Is your loop even functioning? Any circulation?

Your temps are WAY over threshold and I suggest you kick the computer off at 75c since I do believe the Q6600 threshold is 73c.

Is your loop moving? Are the fans on the RAD on? Whatever is wrong, it's big.

Temps should not go above 71! Something major is wrong, re-sink, check all cooling components are working!

You know they actually never get damaged from heat because they get throttled... up to 115c or so, where it automatically shuts it all off.

I'm betting your pump is not hooked up OP

Check your loops man! Check all hardware! Yikes! Has it always do this, or just recently?

This is definitely a problem with the liquid cooling. A random kit, and probably isn't very experienced with it. Read all the directions for that loop of yours. Make sure everything is attached as it should be. I bet the pump or fans on the radiator aren't on.

I've had that happen before. Fan not spinning on stock heatsink for Q6600 = BAD. 110c in BIOS before I nearly knocked over the tower unplugging it from the wall.

And before you say I could've lost alot more by knocking over the tower; that chip\\computer wasn't mine. I didn't want to fry it.

something is terribly wrong. i would definitely reseat the heatsink with new thermal paste. Even with water cooling, there must be no circulation or the radiator is not being cooled at all. Those look like temps with no heatsink!
