I actually think this review was fairly well done, except for the lack of overclocking tests and I'm taking it seriously because their results line up with what the hardware should be capable of.

Those who think the Phenom II, with the relatively minor changes that have been made since the first Phenom, has a chance in hell of beating, or even matching, the i7, overall and clock for clock...those people are the gullible ones.

AMD fanboys who have been hoping for another Netburst vs. A64 situation that allows AMD to climb 10% in market share were setting themselves up for disappointment from the beginning.

That said even if this review is correct. the Phenom II is still going to be quite competitive in it's price range, and I will probably get one.

The benchmarks are legit guys, unfortunately.
The game benchmarks were run without AA/AF, thus making the tests CPU Limited.
The guys are preparing a Clock per Clock comparison at 3.1GHz with the Phenom II 940, a Q6600, a QX9650 and a Core i7 920 [ all the CPUs will be operating at 3.1GHz ].

I'll also make sure to run some gaming tests in real-life scenarios ( 1680x1050 4xAA 8xAF - Max Game Details ) as well.

Yes in those tests intel beats amd. Its one review of the chips. I am sure another will come out with AMD barely loosing and one with intel smashing amd and another with amd beating intel. All i am saying is that basing your facts on "the great war" with only one review of the chips is not practical. Who is to say that the reviewer is not an intel fan boy himself?

No intention of starting a flame.

You say that but honestly mate you already know until we see more than one and it on our own list of whatever site we trust most of us around here will still be sceptica, even if its completely trust worthy lol

no real enthusiast should base or even form their opinions on one review alone imo

not having a go at you or being mean etc mate by the way, just saying like all good sceptics one review isnt enough

No intention of starting a flame.
On the contrary, AN7 Overclocker used to be and still is ( at least in his heart ) a AMD fanboy ( notice the AN7 in his nickname ?... AN7 is one of the best boards from Abit back in the Socket472 era ( SocketA ) )...
There are lots of applications and benchmarks used in the review to call it a all around comparison.
There are some stuff missing ( such as some A/V encoding tests, and real-life gaming tests, but they're on the way ).

If you were expecting Phenom II to beat Intel's Core i7 and Core 2 Quad Q9550, there are some bad news for you... it can't.

It barely surpasses the 2.4GHz Q6600 ( Kentsfield ) in average and that is with a 400MHz operating frequency advantage.
Taking in mind that the average Phenom II 920/940 overclock on air will be around 3.6GHz and 3.8GHz... and considering that the average overclock on of a Core 2 Q6600 G0 on air is 3.6GHz to 3.7GHz... the Phenom II will be beaten if both processors are overclocked near or to their max.

There will be more people presenting their results and comparisons soon, make sure you check XS.org regularly

Would have been nice if the only difference between comparisons was the CPU and mobo. Oh well, few more weeks and I'm sure some reputable review sites will have articles for us, especially Air OC ones.
Because the s775 mobo that we had in our hand was the p5e64 WS evolution(X48,DDR3).Thats why we run them @ low freq(and at nehalem rig) to be more accurate.

Due to the Fact that I own the Foxconn Destroyer the Current Bios is P13 which does not fully support the new Phenom II's, but according to the engineers at Foxconn a new bios will be coming out soon to support the Phenom II's.

What this website should have done was use a Board that does fully support the new Phenoms and actually see what is what.

I am not defending or attacking the reviewers But they Should have done this review differently.

I for one am happy with these results the way that they are and i will be even more pleased after Proper changes have been made to the Destroyer's Bios.

i for one will be purchasing a new Phenom
we have o beta bios that supports fully phenom ii

I wasn't expecting a AM2+ Phenom II to compete with the i7 but instead compete with the current C2Q on 775. I was hoping it would do better against current C2Q but the performance is roughly the same. AMD's platform is much better though. I really can't wait to see the AM3 Dragon platform seeing the gains from i7 with DDR3 memory. Hopefully the motherboard won't be ridiculous like i7 and memory prices will drop.

Overall I thought it was a great review. Maybe a bios update can improve Phenom II's performance a bit. I think these came out a little to late in the game.
