if by "don't even compete" you actually mean "don't beat it in every way" then you're correct. otherwise that's a completely false statement. the new phenom 2's hold their own against the c2q's and were never meant to compete against the i7's - but i guess not all of us can be up on the statements issued by AMD months ago.

Anyone else notice that the FPS drop from lower res to higher res in games is much less on the Phenom II compared to the Intel chips? I'm curious if that continues with 1920x1200.

The gaming tests were done in a CPU limited setting, there was no AA and/or AF applied.
Turning AA & AF on would make the tests GPU Limited ( just like real-life gaming is with a decent graphics card ) and would more than likely equalize the performance of the CPUs included in the test, since all of them are powerful enough to feed the VGA with the necessary data.
Might do some real-life gaming tests with various CPUs in the near future.

As for the fanboyish comments, I ain't gonna play that game.
I have way better things to do.

I'll be waiting till 8th januari, if other revieuws conclude the same as this one i'll probably be going with a Q6600 setup after all.

But we'll see how it goes.

So, this review tells me a few things:

1. Multimedia apps (transcoding etc): Go i7.
2. Benchmarks: Go i7.
3. Gaming: Go PII.

Honestly the i7 reminds me of the IBM Cell processor: great at crunching numbers and benchmarks but not as great for other uses. I'm still going PII because its 33% the price of i7 and it seems to be better in gaming apps, the main reason I even have a computer. Just my 2c. <3
