800 and 1066

Thread Starter
I have a EVGA 780i motherboard which has DDR2 800 slots, and 4GB of Gskill 800 RAM. I recently bought 2x 1GB sticks of Corsair Dominator 1066 RAM for the sole reason that they were only 10$. I took out my 4gb and placed the 1066 ram instead and everest said that its only running at 800.

So, should I attempt to oc the mobo? which I dont really know how to do.

or would it be possible to have both the 800 and 1066 ram in at the same time if the faster ram is being slowed anyways? If so which of these two options would yield better results?

Thanks
(rep points given to those that help)

its not good to mix two different types of ram
it could give you problems.

but ya dude oc em.
just read some of the tutorials here on ocn and if you have any trouble understanding it just post back to us. but you should be abble to oc them to just by setting the specs of the ram in the bios.

Yeah, since they are made to be faster RAM, overclocking them should be a piece of cake.

Yeah i wouldn't recomend mixing ram.

If you want your dominator to run at 1066 then go into bios and change the ram speed. OR it could be called FSB ratio. Either way you should be able to find it.

What are the voltages for the G.skill and the dominator? is they are both the same then i guess you could mix them and see if they work. But they will only run at 800 unless your G.SKILL can OC higher.

So even though they would both be running at 800 it still isnt a good idea to mix them?

you could try it, but i mean a lot of ppl end up with problems mixing memory, and j ust end up going with one kind anyway.
heres an idea, send them dominators my way..

lol, good suggestion

Well I think I will stick with the 4gb until i get a chance to try OC my mobo.

last part of the question though.

which would give better gaming results?
-4gb of 800
or
-2gb of 1066

doesnt work like that, all you ram will run at 1 speed. I would recommend keeping your 4gb of 800 over 2gb of 1066

more ram > faster ram
